Interviews, Hot Wings, and a New Look

So let's see. I was about to post how I am getting a lot more comfortable with preparing good meals here. I've gotten very good at making pasta sauce from scratch, and it tastes great here. In Nepal you can get some quality vegetables cheap, and garlic, tomatoes and anything else for pasta sauce is easy to get. Tonight I had made a salad with organic lettuce tomatoes, cucumber and carrot topped with fresh rosemary, goat cheese and a mix of olive oil and balsamic, pasta and sauce and some whole wheat bread. Things looked great until a little inch worm said "hi!" to Kim. She went on, skeptical of the salad, when a second one inched its way to the edge of her plate. She almost threw the plate at me, and her face went a touch green. Sorry about that hon. I guess that is a drawback to organic lettuce.

Last night though I made a major step forward. Possibly for the first time in Nepal I made proper hot wings with buffalo sauce. Now outside America no one has any idea what you are talking about, but this might be my favorite sauce on the planet. The fact that I got the flavor to come out how it is supposed to makes me a very happy man. Unfortunately this will be tough to produce in bulk, as the only Tabasco sauce I can find are the tiny table top ones. The fact though that I can find it, and that I can get the other ingredients is very satisfying. I'll turn my pot into a deep fryer and make a big batch when we have people over, I can even get blue cheese dressing to go with it. Yay! The rest of the chicken I got was used to make chicken tika served with cucumber and a cilantro-mint chutney. Came out great, and will be making that again.

Moving to another unrelated topic, Akshay, Kim and I had an interview with a correspondent from the Republica News Paper today at Phora Durbar. They will be putting a piece in the weekend insert about our new company Harilo, that I mention a couple posts below. It should be in print and on the internet so I will be sure to post a link to it here if it becomes available. It's easy to talk about, because it is a service that I am genuinely excited about. It wasn't that long ago that we didn't have online shopping in the U.S., and being able to try and bring it someplace where people are unfamiliar with it is an exciting prospect. Anyway, hopefully it's a good article and the added attention will help us launch the enterprise.

Lastly you might notice that I have changed the look of this blog. All credit should be directed to my wife Kim who decided the old template had to go. The mountains are a great back drop and I'm a fan of the new color scheme. Also the dispaly area is much wider, better accommodating anyone who knows how to right click, hit properties and change their resolution off of the dreadful 800 x 600. If you currently are reading this and have a resolution of 800 x 600 please do yourself a favor and change it to something much larger. You'll be glad you did.

  1. I would also like to get credit for more than just the new template. I added the Restaurant Picks, Kathmandu weather, My Republica RSS Feed, and Nepal Links. The down side of this blog is that the facebook share counter seems to revert to 0 everyday, and even if there are comments, they don't show up on the comments count under the post. Oh, well.
